Edward Blakely told Gorod Project about modernization of Russian cities

The Gorod Project cycle of publications on town-planning topics following the recent Moscow Urban Forum published an article by professor of urban policy and head of the United States Studies Center at the University of Sydney. In his publication the author offers new factors of urban competitivenesscomfort, attractiveness of urban environment, self-management, creativity, and smart buildings. These are the properties that, according to Blakely, should be in focus of modern urbanists, architects and town-planners.

Speaking of Russian cities, professor Blakely offers a number of measures that can increase their competitiveness and influence their successful development: inviting international experts with the purpose of developing and implementing a master plan, development of private-public partnership, strengthening self-governance, creation of a general plan under the auspices of a nongovernment organizations, etc.
